Seasonal Positions

We are an established seasonal business specialising in the distribution and retail of premium real Christmas trees in London. We have an exciting opportunity for a high calibre warehouse and distribution manager to join our team and make an immediate impact in a physically demanding, high-pressure role. You will be working closely with and reporting directly to the Managing Director for a 5-6 week period between early November and Christmas.

Construction Manager (Seasonal)

Roles

  • Pursue and assess with the rest of the management team the most efficient, safe, useful and attractive set up for The Christmas Forest retail sites and warehouse.
  • Review the physical aspects of the Christmas Forest and critically seek to procure the most appropriate, cost effective materials, staff and equipment for the job.
  • Manage the safe transport, storage, erection and installation of our equipment, supplies and buildings to and from Richmond, including sourcing and scheduling contractors
  • Schedule, manage and lead experienced construction crew of three
  • Manage the successful and efficient construction and dismantling of our outdoors warehouse and 10+ retail sites, with reference to your own skills and to existing documentation and expertise on site construction
  • Be a fantastic ambassador for our company and maintain extremely cordial relationships with our landlords assisting them when possible.
  • Be on call to maintain warehouse and retail site infrastructure during the trading period (late Nov – Dec 24th)
  • Supervise the clean-up of all sites, including neat storage of all materials, tools etc for the next season
  • Maintain all Christmas Forest premises, tools and equipment, including PAT testing of electrical equipment (training will be provided if needed)
  • Record and update best practice in Operations Handbook as revealed by your experience.
  • Be flexible and willing to assist in other aspects of The Christmas Forest lending expertise where asked

Skills/Experience

  • Good personal and communication skills and experience in efficiently motivating and running a small crew, recording their hours and monitoring productivity and safety.
  • A practical and pragmatic mindset
  • Experience and confidence in outdoor electrical wiring.
  • Experience in building simple outdoor sites eg shows, exhibitions, events.
  • Experience in procuring relevant materials and services.
  • Stamina and the ability to work long hours in a physically demanding work environment
  • Good range of practical skills ie using tools, IT, driving, etc
  • The ability to remain calm when under pressure
  • A good logistical brain and organisational skills
  • A driving license and the confidence to drive a large van or even a lorry in London
  • An interest in developing a permanent role and making a lasting commitment to The Christmas Forest

Location/Hours/Pay

Based in Richmond, Surrey (in-season) and Abingdon, Oxfordshire (off-season). There is basic on site accommodation both at Richmond (with free access to adjacent leisure centre and pool) and in Abingdon. Living at Richmond during the season is anticipated with 10+ hour days and 6 day weeks. Most of the Abingdon hours can be arranged at convenience.

Abingdon based

September/early October 120 hours (procurement and preparation)

Richmond based

October/November 360 hours (site building and setup)

December 220 hours (4o hours site maintenance, 120 optional hours helping in warehouse, 60 hours site breakdown between Christmas and New Year)

January 60 hours (first week – sorting, cleaning, packing and removal of all equipment and containers to storage location.)

Pay around £15,200 p/a negotiable (13k without warehouse hours) depending on age, qualifications and experience (approx £200 per notional 10 hour day).

There is the possibility for the right candidate of additional hours and other duties in December and/or combining this job with the Warehouse & Distribution Manager role.

Stock and Logistics Manager (Seasonal)

Roles

  • Plan and monitor logistics, warehouse, transportation and distribution.
  • Operate custom-built stock planning and control software (mainly Excel-based)
  • Oversee stock taking procedures at our retail sites and within warehouse
  • Receive and check deliveries from suppliers and enforce protocols to ensure accurate stock control
  • Supervise mission-critical loading of lorries for distribution to retail sites
  • Oversee night delivery team and work with them to solve distribution difficulties
  • Liaise and negotiate with suppliers, manufacturers, retailers.
  • Handle paperwork and assist office with record keeping
  • Communicate regularly with store managers to ensure stock levels are suitable
  • Work with management team to improve efficiency and productivity of warehouse and distribution operation
  • Be flexible and willing to assist in other aspects of The Christmas Forest lending expertise where asked

Skills/Experience

  • Required skills: proficient in MS Excel, strong numerical skills and a good head for detail
  • A practical and pragmatic mindset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of IT and a good aptitude in all MS office applications, particularly Excel
  • Proven capability to operate in a pressurised environment with very tight deadlines
  • A good logistical brain and organisational skills
  • Excellent workload prioritisation
  • The ability to present information in a clear concise manner.
  • Proven acumen to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities.

  • Approx 100 hours in October, 500 hours in November/December, 100 hours in January
  • Pay is good and negotiable: depending on age, qualifications, and experience but in the region of £15-20ph and possibly more for the right candidate.

Warehouse & Distribution Manager (Seasonal)

Roles

  • Manage successful and efficient day-to-day operation of warehouse
  • Hire, train and conduct H&S inductions for crew of 6-8 warehouse operatives
  • Schedule, manage and lead warehouse crew, inc two assistant managers
  • Supervise mission-critical loading of lorries for distribution to retail sites
  • Oversee night delivery team and work with them to solve distribution difficulties
  • Receive and check deliveries from suppliers and enforce protocols to ensure accurate stock control
  • Receive and manage fleet of 10+ vehicles inc flatbed lorries, telehandlers, vans
  • Setup and closedown/pack away warehouse & equipment after Christmas
  • Monitor warehouse safety and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Handle paperwork and assist office with record keeping
  • Arrange disposal and recycling of waste from warehouse
  • Work with management team to improve efficiency and productivity of warehouse operation
  • Be flexible and willing to assist in other aspects of The Christmas Forest lending expertise where asked
