The Christmas Forest supports Tree Aid

Buy a Christmas tree, plant a tree in Africa

Tree Aid

The Christmas Forest is proud to have supported Tree Aid since 2006. For every Christmas tree bought from us, we plant a tree in the drylands – the Sahel region – of Africa through Tree Aid.

Thanks to you, The Christmas Forest has planted nearly 70,000 trees to date.

Sustainable development

Tree Aid works to fight poverty and improve the environment with some of the world’s poorest communities in Burkhina Faso, Mali, northern Ghana and Ethiopia. Trees are not only a source of food, shelter, shade and fuel, but also help families to earn vital extra income by selling things that grow on trees, like mangoes, shea nuts and even honey.

Since the charity began in 1987, Tree Aid has enabled thousands of villagers to plant over seven
million trees and protect millions more. Trees provide a long-term, practical solution to poverty and environmental destruction. The brief film below gives an introduction to Tree Aid’s work.

This year’s appeal: Mali

Rural families in Mali rely on depleting natural resources for their every day survival. Seventy per cent of the population here live on less than $2 a day. Forest products such as fruits, leaves, nuts and seeds provide critical resources and potential sources of income.

Tree Aid works with 10 communities in Mali to enable villagers to get their tree product businesses up and running, while also supporting them to manage their forest resources for the future.

This year, your donations via The Christmas Forest will help transform land, lives and livelihoods for families in Mali.

It’s been my great privilege to work with Tree Aid over the last five years. I love their projects because they fulfil the twin functions of sustainability and helping communities in real need.
