Tree care
Looking after your Christmas tree
The Christmas Forest carefully chooses its premium quality trees from the best sustainable plantations across the UK and Ireland.
We take great pride in the quality of our trees, so
much so that we offer a no-nonsense guarantee to all our customers.
However, your Christmas tree needs some TLC from you, too. Remember, your tree is a plant; think of it as no different from a bouquet of freshly picked flowers, and you’ll be on the right path. How long it lasts in its full glory will depend on keeping it well watered and placing it in a good position.
Here are Kelty’s tips for ensuring your tree lasts and lasts:
- Once you’ve got your tree home, keep it outside until you’re ready to decorate it. This will maintain its freshness a little longer.
- Make sure your stand is watertight as you’ll need to water your tree on a more or less daily basis, depending on the its size.
- Once inside, position is everything. Don’t put it next to a radiator where it’ll dry out fast, and make sure that there’s enough room for you to get close to water it.
- When you buy your tree from us online, we automatically cut off an inch from the trunk. This will help your tree absorb water.
- Larger trees (over 6ft) will need about a pint of water a day, smaller ones half a pint or so. Keep checking how much water there is in the reservoir and top up as necessary.
The good treatment of your tree forms part of our terms and conditions.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE!
Always turn your Christmas tree lights off before you water your tree and before going to bed!
Collection and recycling
We strongly recommend you find out what services your local borough offers for collecting Christmas trees. This is by far the ‘greenest’ option as sending out a courier service to collect trees increases your carbon footprint considerably.
Most London boroughs do offer a service to recycle Christmas trees or can direct you to a recycling bank where trees are accepted near you.
Visit Recycle Now to find out what can be recycled in your area, and to find your local council’s
contact details.
If you need a private collection service, we recommend Any Junk (0845 111 9000) who have a special Christmas tree removal service, which includes sweeping up needles as they go, and recycling the tree afterwards. Prices start from £20.83.
